STEM Integration

(Science Technology Engineering Mathematics)

Grades: 3-6

Description: This course will provide teachers with an overview of the new science and mathematics standards with an emphasis on new standards focused in engineering. Teachers will work together on hands-on activities to develop knowledge and experience with both engineering design and science as inquiry, as well as developing an understanding for supporting the integration of mathematics into science instruction.

Teachers will have opportunities to explore engineering and mathematics integration within the FOSS curriculum, Engineering is Elementary curriculum, and plan for STEM integration activities for the upcoming school year. The instructors are Dr. Tamara J. Moore, co-director of the STEM Education Center and Assistant Professor of mathematics/engineering education, and Kristina Tank, PhD student in science education, at the University of Minnesota.
