Program Summary
A special levy allows Valley Crossing Community School and District 622 to offer a unique staff and student development opportunity. The program outlines a plan for staff development specifically targeting enrichment and remediation activities in the areas of mathematics, science, and literacy. District and Valley Crossing leaders will develop final plans for summer staff development based on the registrations completed. Sessions may be cancelled if the required minimum number of participants is not met.

Student Development
Between July, 2012 and April, 2013 teachers must offer 20 hours of extended day enrichment or remediation activities for students in mathematics or reading. These hours can be offered during the summer or during the school year. Teachers are eligible for curriculum-writing pay for 5 hours of planning and 20 hours of teaching and $150 for supplies to use with extended day activities. Teachers must complete an action research project based on their summer training and extended day teaching.

Professional Development
Teachers will participate in one required course during the summer that will include the action research requirement. Registration for a Responsive Classroom course is optional.
